For real. Our guitar teachers at Vivid School of Music care about their students, and they're great with kids, teens, and adults from beginner to advanced. Guitar’s always been our most popular instrument! Every rock band needs at least one, and it’s a versatile way to accompany yourself as a vocalist. Whether you're new to guitar lessons or you're already playing live, our patient and experienced teachers are ready to take you to the next level.
We recommend choosing a guitar you can plug in, regardless of whether you want the acoustic or electric sound. Acoustic guitars can be played by themselves (especially in our small lesson rooms), but if you're playing that guitar in school recitals, rock bands, or the many weekly open mics across Leander, Cedar Park, and Austin, you’ll need a way to amplify the sound. Acoustic-electric guitars are acoustic guitars that can be plugged into an amp, but can also still be played by themselves. They're the best of both worlds.
Guitars come in plenty of sizes, but we recommend choosing the largest size you can handle comfortably, since young students will grow into them quickly, and you’ll get a richer, fuller sound from a larger guitar. We don’t sell guitars ourselves, but you’re welcome to borrow one during your trial guitar lesson, or ask your teacher for recommendations before making a decision.
It’s tempting to buy cheap when you're first starting as a beginner, but resist that temptation! Cheap guitars don’t stay in tune, and there’s nothing more UN-motivating than playing an out-of-tune guitar. If you want to test the waters before buying, we recommend renting from Rock N Roll Rentals on Burnet Rd. in North Austin. (One of the perks of Leander being next to the Live Music Capital of the World is a good source of instrument rentals!)
(A note for our youngest students, and for seniors who might have pain in their fingers: don’t rule out trying ukulele lessons.)
